Hollow Knight: Silksong on AnyPS5
In game Gets into the first areas of the game on Windows at around 60 fps, but only with a few unmerged patches; Linux gets in game too, but slowly.

Reached gameplay on Windows (about 60 fps in the opening areas) and on Linux (7-19 fps), but only on testers' builds: current main plus still-unmerged pull requests (at least #846 and #425), and on some NVIDIA cards an opt-in setting.

Where it stands
On Windows, testers have taken Silksong from launch through the Team Cherry logo, the intro movie, the title menu and profile select, then into a new game and the first areas (the tutorial rooms). Menus, sound and keyboard input work. One tester on an AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and another on an NVIDIA RTX 5090 both report about 60 fps. A third NVIDIA tester played the start of the game and the first fights and saw 43-60 fps. Nobody has reported playing past the opening areas, so how it behaves later in the game is unknown.
This is not a plain download-and-run yet. Many small fixes landed on the main branch between 5 and 10 October: loading the game's Unity modules, missing system functions, memory handling, graphics fixes, movie sync and a sound buzz. One early fix mattered a lot: until 7 October every frame the game showed was black. Testers still list at least two unmerged patches as required: #846, which lets the game load its native plugins from the Media/Plugins folder, and #425, which fixes the first scene's depth handling. On 10 October a user on current main still hit a module-loading error at launch.
Graphics problems have been the main blocker. On some NVIDIA cards the background layers turned into coloured noise, or the game crashed while loading the first level. A fix landed on 10 October as an opt-in setting (APS5_STORE_AT_FLIP=1), and a different NVIDIA tester saw correct backgrounds without it, so results vary. Some menu letters were drawn as solid boxes; that was mostly fixed on 10 October, with one rarer case still open. A dark layer that stayed on screen after changing rooms is fixed.
On Linux, one tester reached the title screen, the intro movie and then gameplay (the tutorial area loads and the game saves) on an older GTX 1050 Ti laptop, at 7-19 fps, using a custom test branch. The crash at the end of the intro and the movie running behind its sound were fixed on main by 10 October. Retesting Linux on current main is waiting on two patches that no longer merge cleanly. Nothing is reported for macOS.

What is stopping it
- The game's native plugins in Media/Plugins only load with pull request #846 (still open, and it now conflicts with current main). Without it the game fails with a missing-DLL error for the PSN plugin. Thread
- A user on current main still gets 'Failed to load module ... Il2cppUserAssemblies.prx' at launch; the cause is that Unity's modules sit outside the folders the relinker searches. Thread
- On some NVIDIA cards the first level shows garbled background layers or crashes while loading, because the game reuses graphics memory that the emulator still holds results for. An opt-in setting (APS5_STORE_AT_FLIP=1) was merged on 10 October; the proper fix is still open. Thread
- A few menu letters can still show as boxes when the CPU really edits part of the font texture next to GPU results; the common case was fixed on 10 October. Thread
- Linux needs a missing system call (_umtx_op), still in an open pull request, and the Linux signal-delivery patch (#1431) no longer merges cleanly. The 'Linux past the opening' retest is waiting on those. Thread
- Linux speed is low (7-19 fps on a GTX 1050 Ti laptop); causes are still being measured. Thread
How it got here
- First bring-up work on Silksong lands: a batch of missing system functions the game asks for at startup is added to main. Source
- A tester on Windows (RX 9070 XT) reports the game going from the title menu through the intro movie into gameplay at 60 fps with keyboard input. A correction the same day: every presented frame had actually been black. Source
- A fix for skipped draws is merged. For the first time the Team Cherry logo, the save notice and the title menu actually appear on screen. Source
- The dark layer that stuck on screen after changing rooms is fixed. The Windows post is refreshed to say playable at 60 fps, with boxed menu letters still open. Source
- Linux: the game reaches the title screen and the intro movie. Later that day it gets past the end of the intro into gameplay on a test branch, at 7-19 fps. Source
- An NVIDIA RTX 5090 tester reaches the first level at 60 fps with one opt-in setting, after finding that garbled backgrounds and a crash came from reused graphics memory. Source
- Several fixes merge to main: menu letter boxes (#1599), the opt-in setting for garbled backgrounds (#1995), Linux exception handling that ended the game after the intro (#1600), movie-to-sound sync (#2351), and the gameplay audio buzz (#2536). Source
- Another NVIDIA tester reports the first level rendering correctly at 43-60 fps with default settings on a newer main plus a few patches. Source
