Windows: the game's own code runs and reaches graphics register checks, but only on one tester's local stack of unmerged branches; no menu, frame or screenshot has been shown.

No screenshot of this game running has been posted in the project's threads yet. Testers who reach a new screen usually post one in the discussion linked on the right.

Where it stands

Resident Evil 4 has only been tried on Windows, by one tester (xXPBSXx). On plain main it stops right away because it asks for a library called Party.prx that does not exist. Nothing is imported from it, so a fork branch (carried as PR #3129, still open) lets Windows start-up skip a missing library like that. After that, the game loads fully, opens its runtime.args file, starts a file-reading thread and reaches its own code.

From there each run hit a new wall and the tester found a fix branch for each. They fixed a thread-local-storage pointer that ignored alignment rounding, a free-memory query that reported the first gap instead of the largest block, a memory protection call that rejected a thread stack, touch-input and SharePlay stubs, and a graphics flag. Most of these are on the tester's own branches and are not merged. The touch-input one was merged through PR #3174 on 2026-10-11. None of them is proven to make the game playable.

The newest stops are graphics ones: the graphics register 0x205 bit for the window offset, which a branch ignores, then the register 0x292 check that has to do with MSAA, and then a shader structure error. Nobody has shown a menu, a frame, a screenshot or an fps number for this game.

Before the game gets this far, 36 system functions it imports are missing and have to be declared as stubs. The tester's branch declares 35 of them as stubs that throw if called, so the game may still hit them later.

What is stopping it

  • Graphics register 0x292 (MSAA bit) is rejected by the graphics state check; the meaning is not settled and it belongs with an older open PR. Thread
  • A shader structure error (structurizer) comes after that and is tracked separately. Thread
  • The game's first real stop was sce::Json::InitParameter2::setSpecialFloatFormatType, which has no known signature. Whether it was resolved later has not been reported. Thread
  • 36 missing system functions (VR headset, SSL, JSON and more) are only stubs that throw if called. The fix branch has not been merged. Thread
  • The Windows loader still stops on the missing Party.prx library on main; the skip-missing-library PR is open. Thread

How it got here

  1. First report: start-up fails because Party.prx is missing and 36 system functions are missing. With a stand-in library and the missing exports added, the game reaches its own code. Source
  2. A fork branch lets the Windows start-up skip an unused missing library. The RE4 tester confirms the game starts past Party.prx with it. Source
  3. Three more start-up stops found and fixed on branches: a thread-pointer alignment bug, a memory size query and stack protection, and touch-input and SharePlay stubs. Source
  4. A PR to skip a missing, unused library on Windows is opened. Source
  5. Next stop identified: graphics register 0x205 bit 16 (window offset enable). A branch ignores the bit. Record of Lodoss War got to its main menu with the same stack. Source
  6. Merged: the touch-input calls the game made now report no touches instead of throwing. Source
